My Approach What Is Psychotherapy? New Patients

New Patients

I would like to welcome you to my web site. If you are considering entering
into therapy and do not find the information you are seeking, please feel free
to contact me.

I would like to introduce you to the process of therapy beginning with your
first contact.

The First Appointment:

• Individual sessions are for 50 minutes except for the initial assessment session which may be for
   75 minutes.
• Couples and or collateral visits may be recommended. These sessions average 75 minutes.
• Insurance claims are the responsibility of the patient.
• If treatment plans are required by the insurer, they will be completed in a timely manner.
• Payment for each session is due at the end of the session unless other arrangements are made in
   advance.
• A monthly statement will be given to the patient at the end of the final session of the month. This
statement will have the appropriate information on it for submitting to the insurance plan.
• Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance or you will be charged for the session.

What to Expect:

• This is an adult psychotherapy practice limited to persons over the age of 18.
• Strict confidentiality is maintained at all times.
• Persons seeking therapy are generally interested in improving their overall lives including
relationships, communications and other areas of their lives that are causing discomfort or pain
such as: work issues, marital or couple issues, parenting differences, losses, life phase adaptation,
body image issues, career development or decision making issues.
• The number and frequency of appointments will depend on the issues to be addressed and the
number of persons being treated i.e. couple or individual.
• Most people are in therapy for approximately 12-16 sessions but that varies with each individual

Therapy Tips

1. Therapy works best when you attend all of your scheduled appointments.
2. Effectiveness of therapy depends on your active participation. It requires time, effort and
    regularity.
3. Establish goals with your therapist
4. Periodically review and evaluate your progress with your therapist.
5. Therapy involves evaluating your thoughts and behaviors, identifying stresses and working to
    modify both.
